Audio you can open

  • Only audio that this browser can actually decode is accepted. Whether WAV, MP3, M4A (AAC), OGG or FLAC works depends on the browser; the file extension is not used to decide.
  • Files can be up to 250 MB. Because the decoded audio is held in memory, the length is limited too: 15 minutes for 48 kHz stereo, 30 minutes for mono (longer at lower sample rates).
  • Files that do not record their length, such as WebM recorded in a browser, cannot be opened.
  • Some browsers can open the audio of a video file; only the audio is saved.

How to trim

  • Set the start and end with the waveform handles or by typing a time (e.g. 1:05.25). Positions are rounded to the nearest sample.
  • “Preview selection” lets you listen to the range before saving.
  • After trimming, you can play the WAV to check it before saving.

Saved format

  • Files are saved as WAV (16-bit linear PCM), not as MP3 or another compressed format.
  • The sample rate and number of channels stay the same as the original. If the original sample rate cannot be read, the audio is converted to 48,000 Hz and the page says so.
  • Volume and quality are not changed, and there are no fades or noise reduction. Audio finer than 16-bit (such as 24-bit) is rounded to 16-bit.
  • WAV is uncompressed, so the file may be larger than the original (about 11 MB per minute at 48 kHz stereo).
