What it does and its limits

  • Load one still JPEG, PNG, or WebP image. Selected areas are covered by solid black rectangles and flattened into a new PNG or JPEG. Animated PNG and WebP files are rejected.
  • The input limit is 15 MiB (15,728,640 bytes), 8 megapixels, and 6,000 px per side. File size, dimensions, and animation markers are checked before decoding.
  • Drag with a mouse or one finger to select an area. For keyboard selection, focus the image, move the start point with the arrow keys, press Enter, move the end point, and press Enter again. Shift+arrow moves 10 px; Esc cancels.
  • Zoom changes the display only. Rectangles stay in the oriented source-image pixel coordinates. Their edges are rounded outward and clamped to the image bounds.
  • PNG keeps transparent source pixels, while covered pixels become opaque. JPEG composites transparent areas over white and uses 92% quality. The save control appears only after the output format, dimensions, and black areas pass a separate decode check.
  • The tool covers the areas you select. It does not automatically detect personal information or faces.
  • The new image does not retain source EXIF, embedded thumbnails, or editing layers. The source file is never overwritten.

Data handling

The image and its file name are used only in browser memory. They are not saved automatically or sent elsewhere. The image data and temporary URLs are released when you select another file, edit the redactions, or leave the page.

  • Make a solid background transparent
