Convert logos and line art to SVG

Traces the outlines of a logo or line drawing and turns them into SVG shapes (paths) that stay sharp at any size. Black and white or 2–8 colors. Not suited to photos.

How it works

  1. Separate the colors: in black and white, areas darker than the threshold become shapes. With a set number of colors, the image is reduced to 2–8 colors, and the most common color along the edges is made transparent as the background (you can turn this off).
  2. Remove specks: dots up to the chosen size are removed, and holes up to the same size are filled.
  3. Trace the outlines: outlines follow the boundaries between pixels. Pixels touching diagonally are treated as connected.
  4. Reduce the points: one-pixel staircases are smoothed, and points are reduced to match the chosen detail. With “Use curves”, sharp corners are kept and the rest becomes smooth curves.

Shapes with holes (such as “O” or “A”) are stored as one path per color with the even-odd fill rule, which cuts the holes out. With several colors, colors are stacked from the largest area to the smallest so that no gaps appear between them.

The saved SVG

  • It contains only <svg> and <path>: no embedded copy of the original image, no scripts and no external references. This is checked before saving.
  • The display size (width and height) matches the original image.

Good and poor fits

Works best with logos, icons, line art and lettering: few colors and clear shapes. Photos, illustrations with many gradients and fine textures are not a good fit. Lettering cannot be turned back into fonts.

Limits

  • Files up to 50 MB and images up to 50,000,000 pixels.
  • Outlines are traced at up to 4,194,304 pixels (2048 × 2048). Larger images are scaled down with the same aspect ratio before tracing (the SVG keeps the original display size).
  • No SVG is made beyond 20,000 outlines, 400,000 points or 10 MB. Try removing larger specks, using fewer colors or choosing “Smooth”.

  • Make a solid background transparent

    Turn a white or single-color background transparent and save logos, signatures and line art as transparent PNGs. Choose the color, tolerance and area, and check what will be removed before saving.

  • Straighten a document photo

    Line up the four corners of a document photographed at an angle and get a straight, rectangular image. Shadows on the paper can be whitened. Save as JPG or PNG.
