Read QR codes

Ways to read

• Choose image: pick or drop a screenshot or photo.
• Paste image: reads an image you copied. If the button does not work in your browser, press Ctrl+V (⌘+V on Mac). The clipboard is read once, only when you press.
• Use camera: uses video only, never the microphone. It stops as soon as a code is read, after 60 seconds without a read, or when you switch to another tab.
• Read from screen: your browser asks which tab or window to share. Sharing stops right after one frame is captured. If you choose the entire screen, the whole screen is passed to this page, so choose only the tab or window that shows the QR code.

The browser asks for permission for the camera and screen sharing. If you decline, choosing or pasting an image still works.

How results are shown

• If an image contains several QR codes, all are read and numbered on the image.
• Content that is already in the list is not added again.
• Content is shown as plain text. Links never open by themselves: the destination (host) is shown, and the link opens in a new tab only when you press “Open link”. Only http and https links can be opened.
• Content such as javascript: that can run a program inside the page is never made into a link.
• Wi-Fi passwords and secrets for sign-in codes are hidden until you choose to show them.
• Invisible characters and characters that change text direction are shown like ⟨U+202E⟩.

Limits

• Images up to 50 MB and 50,000,000 pixels. Images longer than 4,096 px are scaled down before reading, so very small codes may not be found.
• QR codes (including Micro QR and rMQR) only. Other barcodes are not read.
• Images, screens and content are not uploaded or saved. Decoding uses zxing-wasm (MIT; the underlying zxing-cpp is Apache-2.0), loaded from this site.
