Split bills and settle up

How it works

• One currency only. After you choose a currency, everything is calculated in its smallest unit (1 for yen, 0.01 for euros or dollars). No currency conversion.
• Each payment is split among the people selected under “Shared by”, in proportion to their share weight. If all weights are 1, the split is equal. People with weight 0 pay no share.
• Leftovers: an amount that cannot be divided exactly goes one smallest unit at a time to the people with the largest remainders; on a tie, to the person listed first. The result shows which payments had leftovers and who covered them.
• Difference = amount paid − share. The differences always add up to zero, and the result shows this check.
• Who pays whom sends money from the person who owes the most to the person who is owed the most, and so on. After these payments everyone is even. This is not always the smallest possible number of payments.

Input rules

• You can choose the number format (decimal mark and digit grouping). The default follows the page language, but you can change it independently.
• Yen, won, dong and rupiah do not accept decimals. Other currencies accept up to 2 decimal places.
• Up to 20 people and 50 payments. Amounts can have up to 12 digits before the decimal mark; weights are whole numbers from 0 to 100.

Saving and sending

Names and amounts are not saved or sent and disappear when you close the page. Only the currency and number format settings are saved on this device. The result is copied to the clipboard only when you press “Copy settlement”. The tool does not make payments, connect to banks or keep a history.
