See what is inside a ZIP file and extract only the files you need, one at a time or together. Nothing to install, and the file is not uploaded.
Split CSV by rows
Split a CSV file into several files with a set number of data rows each. The header row is added to every file, values stay unchanged, and you can save all files as a ZIP.
or drop a file here
UTF-8 CSV or TSV (up to 30 MB)
The file is split on this device and is not saved or sent.
How it splits
- The file is split every set number of data rows. The last file may have fewer rows.
- If the first row is a header, the same header row is added at the top of every file. The header is not counted as a data row.
- Rows end only at line breaks outside quotes (“). Line breaks and commas inside a quoted value never split a row.
- Values are not changed. Each file is cut directly from the original rows. Leading zeros, long numbers, empty fields, quotes and line breaks (CRLF, LF, etc.) stay as they are. Joining the split files without the repeated header gives back the original file.
- The delimiter (comma, semicolon or tab) is detected from the content. Choose another one if it is wrong.
Encoding
Only UTF-8 files are supported (with or without BOM). If the original has a BOM, every split file gets one too. Files in other encodings, such as Windows-1252 or Shift_JIS, are not read and you will see a message. Save the file as “CSV UTF-8” in your spreadsheet app.
CSV files that cannot be read
If a quote is never closed, or a closing quote is followed by something other than a delimiter, you will see the line number and the file is not split. Rows with a different number of columns than the first row are reported, then split as they are.
Opening the files in a spreadsheet app
Values that start with “=”, “+”, “-” or “@” may be treated as formulas by spreadsheet apps. This tool tells you how many such values there are, but it does not change them or run any formula.
Saving and limits
- Save the files one by one, or all together as a ZIP (uncompressed). Files are numbered like “original-name_001.csv”.
- Up to 30 MB per file, 2,000,000 rows, 1,000 output files, and 1 to 1,000,000 rows per file.
This tool processes your input and files on this device (in your browser) and does not send them to a server. See Privacy and ads for details.
