Add up work hours

How it works

• For each row, choose “Start and end” or “Duration”. A start/end row counts end − start − break; a duration row counts the duration as entered.
• If the work ends after midnight, select “Ends the next day” (23:00 → 01:00 the next day is 2 hours). If you don’t and the end is before the start, the row is shown as an error; the tool never assumes the next day.
• You can enter 24:00 as the end (the end of the day). 24:00 cannot be combined with “Ends the next day”.
• Times are subtracted as shown on the clock. Days on which daylight saving time changes the real elapsed time are not taken into account.
• Minutes are added up first and then converted to decimal hours. The decimal is rounded to the selected number of places (1–3), so it may differ from the sum of the rounded row values.
• Rows that are incomplete or have errors are left out of the total, and the number of such rows is shown.

Input formats

Decimals such as 1.5 are not accepted for durations, because it is unclear whether they mean 1 h 30 min or 1 h 05 min.

Saving and copying

Your times are not saved or sent. Only the number of decimal places is remembered. “Copy table” copies a tab-separated table that you can paste into a spreadsheet. The decimal separator follows the page language.

Limits and out of scope

Up to 100 rows; durations up to 99:59 per row. The tool does not cover labor law, pay, night or overtime premiums, taxes, or clocking in and out.
